A detailed collection of historical coifurres, this very rare work showcases ladies’ hairstyles of the French royalty and elite from 1589 to 1778, with more than half of the plates displaying the styles of Marie Antoinette’s day.The sheets are uncut so that each page shows two hairstyles and two panels of engraved text, and the leaves are printed on one side only.
Title leaf and 24 plates. 23.4 x 15 cm (9 1/4″ x 6″) first edition. Paris: Chez Desnos, 1788. No copies of this book have been available at auction since 1998, and only 3 copies exist in US libraries
